What to Expect When You’re Furnishing a Home
Just like buying a new wardrobe, furnishing your home can be a ton of fun – but stressful at the same time. When you’re juggling a lot of options for how you want to present yourself or your living space, it can get a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, when you partner with a professional you can get the support you need to make wise, quality choices that you can live happily with for a long time.
The first thing I tell my clients when we start working together is, “This will take more time than you anticipate.” Choosing furnishings for a home certainly can be a faster process, if you go with the first thing that catches your eye. But really analyzing what will work best for a particular space takes time. Researching all the options and weighing the best ones can be more involved, but it will result in your long-term satisfaction.
My Process For Furnishing a Home
The methods I use for selecting the right décor for your home aren’t fast. It takes time for me to identify the right solution for your individual situation. I’ve honed this process through many years of working with clients like you and I’ve found it produces the best results.
In fact, some of the projects I’m most proud of have taken – well, years! I’ve worked with a client to complete one area at a time before moving on to the next space, and we haven’t rushed it. Now, years may not be your anticipated schedule relish – misc trust me, I do work more quickly – but the idea is that getting it right takes time.
Why Does It Take So Long?
Let’s look at what happens when you order a single item of furniture. You’ve found the perfect armchair and we’ve placed your order with a manufacturer. Often, that chair is being made just for you by a distant craftsman or company, and it can take weeks or even months to finish it and transport it to you. If you’ve placed a custom order, that can take even longer.
Based on my knowledge of how the industry works, I can do everything in my power to shorten those times. I know how frustrating the wait can be, but it is a reality.
How Your Budget Factors In
The other issue with furnishing a home is: It can be expensive to do right. That’s why I take my time and help you find the perfect solution, so you’ll be sure to get your full value from what you’ve spent. Even if you have some idea of the cost involved, it’s likely to be more than you think.
Once you recover from the initial sticker shock, so to speak, remember that doing any decorating project right will actually save you money in the long run. You’ll have an end product better than you ever dreamed of, and you will be able to use and enjoy the furnished space for years, if it’s completed correctly. The investment in the right designer is very much worth it.
In addition to paying for the furnishings themselves, you’ll be paying for my services. This is usually done as either a percentage of the goods I provide to you or as a pre-agreed fee. You’ll know what you’ll be spending and won’t be surprised at the end of the project. I’ll help you set a realistic budget and educate you on the best options within that budget so you get the most for your dollar. I know what to prioritize and what to wait for, and I can use my expertise to help you make smart decisions.
Together, we’ll create the best interior design possible for what you can spend. Being on the same team with completely clear expectations on both sides makes for a successful project that you can be pleased with on completion and well into the future.
