Can Designers and Builders Be Friends?
At first glance, designers and builders don’t seem to have much in common. Builders create the functional structure of a home or room, while designers add the decorative details that make a space comfortable. But the best finished projects come from a tight collaboration between both the designer and the builder.
To produce the best results on your project — whether that’s adding on a new bathroom or constructing a custom home — it’s best if your designer is part of the team throughout all stages of the project. You may think that the designer only has to come in after the construction is done and the dust is cleaned up, but in reality, the designer needs to have an influence on the structure to help create the best finished space.

Where does my Inspiration Come From?
As a designer, clients, friends, and family often ask where I find my inspiration for my interior designs. It can be hard to pinpoint the exact origin of an idea or inspiration sometimes, but I do know what my major influences are as an designer and these things often shape my designs.

I Speak Architect: Why Working Closely With Project Professionals Ensures a Great Design Outcome
Your interior design project is going to run much more smoothly when all the professionals involved understand each other and can collaborate well.
Besides being skilled at understanding contractors, I also speak the language of another important member of your design team: the architect. Architects are responsible for planning the structure of the building and designing the way the space will flow. A good architect combines engineering and art to produce a house or other building that works well for the people who will be using it and is visually pleasing.

Quick Tip #7: Construction
Plan for a safe in your home.
It is easy and relatively inexpensive to put a wall or floor safe within your home. With a little planning, a “hotel type” safe can be installed between the framing studs in a closet. If you are looking for something more substantial, a recess in the foundation or behind a shelf is also easy to do when considered early in the design process.

What to Expect When You’re Furnishing a Home
Just like buying a new wardrobe, furnishing your home can be a ton of fun – but stressful at the same time. When you’re juggling a lot of options for how you want to present yourself or your living space, it can get a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, when you partner with a professional you can get the support you need to make wise, quality choices that you can live happily with for a long time.

Quick Tip #6: Landscape Lighting
This can be a very big budget item. But the good news is that it can be very easily added later. Often people get “budget fatigue” by the end of a project. Some things are essential right away (like sprinklers and grass), but the other items to consider for later can always be added on. Fountains and accent lighting can make the yard truly special…but can be phased into your plan in the years to come.

I Speak Contractor: A Discussion with The Mind Behind Eve’s Creations
Designing a home is a matter of balancing beauty and precision. Many clients have a broad vision, but an unclear way of attaining it. Enlisting the expertise of an experienced designer, construction manager, or decorator is an extremely personal matter. With almost 18 years both spent in design and construction, I walk the fine line of that balance. There is a “gap” between the two disciplines. I understand and bridge this gap for my clients. Essentially, I speak “contractor”, and have done so for quite some time. When it comes to successful architectural design, I have found two things to be steadfast: A…

Quick Tip #4: Lighting
A small thoughtful detail that is easy to do in the planning stages. They make such a nice (and safe) night light. The prewiring and light itself are not a major expense. But adding them later is a much bigger challenge.

Two Sets of Problem Solving Skills: How to Overcome Design and Building Challenges
Any designer – whether that’s on paper, in digital space or in physical space – knows that the main function of design is to overcome a problem. Almost every client I work with has a challenge to figure out. What will make the living room seem warm and inviting when you have friends over? How will your office be set up so you can get the most work done, most efficiently? How can you get the most enjoyment out of your outdoor living area?

The Mark of Interior Design Expertise
I like to think that I’m an expert – someone who knows a tremendous amount about interior design and decoration. At the same time, I don’t always know the answer to every problem or question. Sometimes I have to go back to my office and give your question some thought; sometimes I need to research the best answer for your needs.

Quick Tip #2: New Home
The noises within the walls (when a toilet flushes) is sometimes unpleasant. So depending on where the interior pipes are located, it may be worth spending a little extra money on a cast iron pipe. It is an easy upgrade that makes a home more comfortable.

Quick Tip #1: Landscaping
Hire your Landscaping Professionals in January So many people wait until spring or (worse) summer to start thinking about their outdoor spaces. Unfortunately, Landscape Professionals are usually booked out months ahead of time. Whether you are sprucing up existing spaces or working on an entire new home, get your plan in place well in advance of when you would like to use your yard. This same advice goes for ordering outdoor furniture and planters.
